Karlos Nassar with new world records
Bulgarian weightlifter Karlos Nassar made a remarkable return to the sport after overcoming an Achilles injury. At the World Cup in Doha, Qatar, he set new world records in the Olympic category up to 89 kg.
Nassar showed outstanding strength and technique, finishing with a total of 393kg. In the throwing discipline, he started convincingly with 165 and 170 kg, only failing on his last attempt at 175 kg. In the deadlift, he had an outstanding performance, clearing 205, 211 and an impressive 223 kg in succession.
With these results, Nassar set new world records, both for men and under-20s. It wasn’t the first time this year that he had broken the world record in the push, having managed 221kg in April.
