SERVETTE WOMEN’S FOOTBALL CLUB
SFCCF-DIP COLLABORATION FOR THE MATCH AGAINST AS ROMA
José Barcala’s players knew what was at stake before setting foot on the pitch this Saturday evening in Lucerne. Earlier in the day, Zurich lost 2-0 in St. Gallen. A victory would have given the Servettiennes the chance to take the lead in the standings for the first time this season. In addition, it allowed them to extend their winning streak, having already won four games in a row. And finally, it would give them extra confidence before tackling the return match, which is crucial for qualifying for the Champions League.
Servette FCCF therefore started this match with a bang, leaving very few balls to their opponents. A domination that was confirmed by Paula Serrano’s opening goal, with a header from a corner (15th). The Genevans could have made the score worse in the process, but they lacked precision at the decisive moment. The second half came very quickly, and despite being behind, the Lucerne women almost never managed to worry the Grenats. José Barcala’s players even doubled the lead in the 66th minute thanks to a fine goal from Imane Saoud, her first of the season. The rest of the match was managed calmly and, although they could have won by a wider margin, the main thing is there: Servette FCCF is once again at the top of the Axa Women’s Super League standings.
Servettiennes’ next match will be played at the Stade de Genève, this Thursday, starting at 7 p.m. They will host AS Roma for the second leg of the Champions League play-offs. Trailing 3-1 in the first leg, the Genevans will have to pull off a feat to secure a new participation in the prestigious competition. They will need a large and noisy crowd to push them towards victory! So, everyone to the Stadium this Thursday! After the success experienced in 2021 during the last European campaign, Servette FCCF and DIP are teaming up again to allow young students from the canton to attend the match against AS Roma this Thursday.
Servette FCCF hosts AS Roma this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Stade de Genève as part of the UEFA Women’s Champions League play-offs. Beaten 3-1 in Rome a week earlier, the Grenat will have a lot to do to beat the double Italian champions and qualify for the second time in their history in the Champions League group stage.
To achieve this feat, the Servettiennes will be lucky to have a large audience to push them to the end. Indeed, more than 2,500 students from the Department of Public Education will be present to encourage the Swiss Champions towards a new feat!
With a view to further promoting women’s football and the practice of sport for all in a broader vision, Servette FCCF is delighted to welcome 2,500 young students this Thursday for a historic meeting in the history of the SFCCF. These 2,500 young people will take their seats in the East stand of the Stade de Genève. In total, nearly 5,000 people have purchased a ticket for this European evening!
