Servette FCCF travels to Grasshopper this Saturday! Facing the Swiss German team, José Barcala’s players want to get back on track after the defeat against Zurich. The Servettiennes are only two points behind first place.
The SFCCF wants to get the machine going again after a complicated last match in the championship. Indeed, the Servettiennes lost 2 to 1 against FC Zurich, while the match was played at the Trois-Chêne. José Barcala’s players led 1-0 after the first half, but the score could (should?) have been much heavier in favor of the Genevans. Unfortunately, they missed many opportunities, which allowed the Zurich team to stay in the match until the end. The latter then turned the situation around by scoring in quick succession. It must also be said that the SFCCF was coming off a very busy schedule with European matches and had to deal with the absence of a few key players.
Since then, the Servettiennes have brilliantly qualified for the round of 16 of the Swiss Cup thanks to a 7-0 victory against Luzern Frauen. This match allowed José Barcala’s players to regain a good dose of confidence before resuming the championship. With their elimination in the Champions League play-offs, the Servettiennes can now focus on their two objectives for the season: defending their titles as Swiss champions and the Cup.
Grasshopper is one of the good surprises of this season, with good results in this first round. With 11 points in 7 matches, the Zurich team is only 4 points behind the Geneva team. However, they are on two consecutive defeats in the championship against St. Gallen (1-0) and Basel (6-2). The garnet defense will have to be vigilant, because GC has three players who have scored three goals or more. Ess (4 goals), Pfister and Poitier (3 goals) are formidable in front of the net, and it will be essential to limit their scoring opportunities. On the Geneva side, it is Cassandra Korhonen who stands out with her three goals.
This match between Grasshopper Club Frauenfussball and Servette FCCF will be played on the GC Campus AG pitch from 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast live and in full on the AXA Women’s Super League website.
