After Europe and the championship, it’s time for the third competition of the season for Servette FCCF with the Swiss Cup! The Servettiennes, double defending champions, are starting a new quest to retain their precious possession, first stage in Lucerne this Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Servettiennes are getting ready to put the Swiss Cup back into play! After winning the competition in 2023 and then in 2024, the Servettiennes are starting a new campaign with the firm intention of retaining their possession. The first stage will take them to central Switzerland to face FC Luzern Frauen, a resident of the 1st league!
After two defeats in a row, the Genevans intend to get back on track against an opponent who is apparently within their reach. Nevertheless, Jose Barcala’s protégés will be the team to beat during this 2024-2025 campaign. So watch out for Lucerne who will try everything to create a historic feat and take out the double defending champions.
The Grenat’s opponent this Saturday, FC Luzern Frauen, had some great years in the Swiss Cup in the early 2000s. Indeed, the central Swiss club won this competition 4 times (2002, 2004, 2005, 2006) and also has 5 Swiss championship titles (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006). At its beginnings, FC Luzern Frauen was called “FC Sursee” before changing in 2004 to “FC LUwin.ch”. It was in 2011 that the Lucerne club was called, and still is today, “FC Luzern Frauen”. FC Luzern, which plays in the LNA (formerly SK Root) and is affiliated with the “FCL”, therefore has no connection with the Grenat’s opponents on Saturday, although the two clubs share the same name (or almost) as well as the same logo.
