POGON SZCZECIN – SERVETTE FCCF: FIRST STAGE

Servette FCCF begins its race towards the Champions League this week in Szczecin, Poland. This competition is played in three stages, and each defeat is a knockout stage. The first stage consists of emerging victorious from the first match of the “Champions’ Path”. Servettiennes face the local team Pogon Szczecin this Wednesday at 8pm.

This week, the Genevans are playing for one of the major objectives of their season: qualifying for the Champions League. To reach this prestigious competition, the Swiss champions must go through three more rounds, or three opponents. The first stage begins this Wednesday, in Poland, against the local team Pogon Szczecin. If Servettiennes triumph over the Polish champions, they will then face the winner of the confrontation between AC PAOK (Greece) and Maccabi Kiryat Gat (Israel) on Saturday. The team that wins both of its matches this week will qualify for the competition’s play-offs. The play-offs are the third and final stage to access the Champions League.

But before thinking that far ahead, you have to take the steps one after the other. The most important deadline is therefore Wednesday’s match against Pogon Szczecin. Servette FCCF has three consecutive victories in the league, but the team is not yet at its best. It will have to quickly find the performance of the end of last season in order to give itself the best possible chances. Indeed, the Polish team are serious opponents. They have won their first three league matches with a total of 12 goals scored and 3 conceded. The Servettiennes have been warned: they will have to play a perfect match to move on to the next stage.
